temecula photographer | fifty-two on fridays: week 27

i cant believe we are on the second half of the year already! i feel like we just started this project! Week 27?  WHAT?!?

this week, our photo prompt was the word “FREE”. there is so much emotion that conjures up when i hear that word. as i started to brainstorm earlier in the week, my obvious sensibilities had me leaning towards something fun from the 4th of July. honestly, i think i shot 3 frames that night and none of them represented a lick of freedom or resembled anything “free”. just imagine your everyday mom with a baby strapped to her trying to wrangle 15 kids at a block party with sparkling lemonade and red, white and blue cupcakes. do you see the fascinating visions of freedom in your head? yeah, me neither.

so on this morning i woke up with camera in hand shooting from the sun up. im usually not this energetic about shooting first thing in the morning but im embarking on a new project and i made a promise to myself it would be done the right way and I wasn’t happy with my previous attempt. so there i was making coffee with my big ol’ Nikon around my neck when Mr Gruff n’ Stuff came charging down the stairs. there were no two ways about it, this dude woke up on the very wrong side of the bed.  by the looks of his face, i wasn’t sure if he’d made it to bed at all.

after breakfast and an emotionally charged phone call with his dad, he had to let it all go. he unleashed the floodgates and there was no turning back. i let him be alone for a few minutes to wail and he soon came back sniffing and saying, “im ready to be nice now”.

this was his beautiful face.

sometimes there just is nothing more freeing than a good old fashioned cry.

…and im happy to report, that was the end of the crying and our day turned out to be just fine.
