LA and i are a little like that friend we all have that looks disturbingly better looking and more put together than you all the time so you never seem to hang out much in fear they will find out you’re just not fashionable enough. needless to say, i don’t make my way over there much with my 3 car seats and yoga pants that i didn’t seem to get around to doing yoga in. people talk about how gross the smog is but you can bet your bottom dollar you’re not going to see a sunset anywhere else like in LA and its because of that creepy smog. (i’m not sure how i just turned smog into a plus for this major metropolis but lets go with it.)
i had the pleasure of shooting some friends this past weekend at LA’s own Griffith Observatory. having lived only a short drive from LA the past 5 plus years, i cant believe id never made it out to this gem. i have literally fallen in love with LA all over again seeing it’s beginning of night from this vantage point.
friendship commenced.

come see what my friend Val Spring of The Red Balloon Photography and has posted for “NIGHT”, it’s sure to be spectacular…

Beautiful image, Shannon!
Oh sweet dear sunset and smog! So in love with the Hollywood sign and the light. This is delicious.
That is cool with the Hollywood sign!!! Smog and all.
This is gorgeous. Love it!
I love your smoggy sunset. I want to be friends with LA.
Awe, so peaceful, and pretty. Love it!
Gorgeous view, looks so relaxing and peaceful!
oh wow, what a spectacular scene!!
such a lovely setting!
what a fantastic shot.
So gorgeous, don’t you just want to carry these kind of nights with you all the time?
just serene and beautiful. love where the “HOLLYWOOD” is placed…
seems as if there’s been a lot of potty training on the scene lately and our house is no different. my mornings this week were spent mainly sitting from the vantage point of this photo with a rather large bowl of coffee in front of me. i’m happy to report we’re doing pretty well; Ruby looks to have scored the Beauty & the Beast tea set from The Disney Store and we may actually make it out of the house next week (although i’ll be packing a pink potty covered in Hello Kitty stickers in the back of my SUV. ultra chic, right?)
peanut on the pot @ 5:56am.

Too cute! She might hate you for this shot later, like graduation time?! lol
haha. little stinker. super cute.
Oh my word! Needless to say…this is such a “big feat” for such a little one. I love this! Ahhhh the memories. The light is fantastic, my friend.
OMG you made me laugh out loud, both with this perfect picture (which btw looks a lot like Olivia’s potty face/pose) and the “peanut on the pot” update. You are the coolest person I know.
What a big girl!! We’ve been there too, all the hard work is so so worth it. xo
yay for ru! what a good girl!
that image is priceless!
i have to embark on potty training with my youngest very soon, but i have been putting it off for the reasons you mentioned…namely not leaving the house for a week!
Haha! Love it. We are doing this with the twins right now.
Love it….seems like yesterday I was cruisin around with Lilys pink potty in my SUV too.
Melt my heart, seriously!
hilarious!! super super cute!!
morning coffee & a blowdry spectator.
and so it begins.
fancy hat.
your first wallet.

Great 10 on 10 this month!!! I always adore your captures!
i grew up with a grandma that went to the beauty shop every week to get her hair set. every week, during the summer when we were out of school, my cousin and i would head to the salon and listen to my grandma gab about the town talk. and that woman could talk. i quickly learned that that’s half the fun of getting your hair done, the conversation you get to have with it.
this week was Ru’s first haircut. as soon as we hit the doors, she plopped on the bright red couch and stretched out her legs like she was meant to be there. other customers started to filter through and while i was busy with Vi on the other side, Ru managed to make small talk with one of the other ladies. minutes before, i had kind of regretted not taking her to a kid’s salon so she could sit in one of those crazy airplanes and watch Dora the Explorer all the while her hair was being cut. in all honesty, she didnt seem to mind the grown up version (she picked the leopard printed hair cape for goodness sakes).
here she is in all her glory having her first salon chat.
